MUMBAI: It's good news for students planning to apply to French universities and working there later.
Earlier a student had to leave the country on completion of the academic course. Now, they have six months to stay back and get a job.
The new Skills and Talent Permit (STP) also says that foreign students now applying to French varsities can obtain a work permit that is renewable after a period of three years (it had to be renewed every year).

At a meeting on Monday with Mumbai University vice-chancellor Vijay Khole, the French ministry of immigration representative, Jean-Yves Lavoir, said, "The new Skills and Talent Permit lets students work for 60% of the annual working duration of 964 hours.
Earlier, students were not allowed to work while pursuing an academic course.''
French government rules say an STP is issued directly by the consulate if an applicant can prove that s/he possesses a specific skill or talent that can contribute to the economic growth of the country.
